| What kind of Cameras do you use? |
| We
shoot with Nikon camera equipment. Our main cameras are D200 and D300
models, but we also have D70, D70s and D40x cameras in our arsenal. |
| What kind of lighting do you use? |
|
We have a variety of equipment which we use, depending on the look we are trying to achieve. Nikon SB 800
flash units both on-camera and on tripods. For our studio
work we use continuous "cool" flourescent lights. These
lights produce flicker free results that require no extra filtration to
render skintones naturally and beautifully. True to their name, they do
not get hot, permitting longer shooting times and a higher comfort level
for our clients.. |
| Do you "do video"? |
| No we do not shoot video, we like to leave the video to the Videographers and focus on what we're best at. If you are looking for a Videographer check out our friend John Miller - he's great to work with! |
| Do you use Photoshop? |
| Of course. Most modern day Photographers have Photoshop in their bag of tricks. Like many of our peers, we do not like to rely on Photoshop to "make" a good photo - or rather, make a poorly shot photo presentable. It is better to start with an image that has been shot correctly rather than deal with the drudgery of correcting a mass of sloppily shot photos. Photoshop is a major part of our workflow, and we use it creatively to enhance certain elements of a photo, or perhaps remove certain elements of a photo - however, we don't rely on Photoshop, and many of our images are not edited in any way. |
| Do you watermark your photographs? |
Yes and No. If you are viewing our photos online it is very likely you will be seeing a watermark, however if you hire us to shoot for you, none of the images you receive from us will be watermarked. None of our fine art prints carry a watermark, however they are all hand-numbered and signed on the back. Only a certain amount of each print is sold. Once they're gone, they're gone and we do not run the image again. This means every hand signed, numbered piece of artwork will forever retain it's original integrity. |
| Do you shoot "Photojournalism Style"? |
A word about "Photojournalism". There has been a recent trend towards this style of late - and with that trend comes somewhat of a confusion about exactly what "Photojournalism" actually is. It seems that alot of people are under the impression that "Photojournalism" means weirdly skewed images with slanted horizons, obscure artistic interpretations, flash flares, bad lighting and poor formatting. More times than I can count, a bride has told me how she does not want "any of those crooked 'Photojournalism' style" images to be taken at her wedding. Our style of "Photojournalism" does not include any of the above. When we talk about shooting "Photojournalistically" we are simply letting our subjects be who they are and capturing them doing what they do naturally. When we shoot in a "Photojournalistic" style, our subjects never know we are there. In fact we are frequently told this after our wedding couples see their photos and are amazed at how many moments we captured - moments where they had completely forgotten that there was even a photographer around! Our ability to be "non-intrusive" while at the same time "right there for every moment" is what we feel truly sets our style of photojournalism apart from the rest. We know that nobody wants a "suit with a flash" in their face! - this promotes unnatural poses and stiff facial expressions. Out motto is "Just relax and have fun - we'll do the rest, and you'll look like a star!" |
| But will you pose us/direct us if we need help? |
| Absolutely! Let's face it, not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera - especially during a wedding when nerves can play a big part in how people react to a Photographer. While we encourage clients to just "be themselves" we realize this is not always as easy as it sounds. For the more traditional posed wedding shots and for general portrait sittings we most definitely direct our clients on how to pose to best use the lighting and either hide flaws or accentuate features. We will always direct parents and children, or groups of children - this way the sitting time is used more economically, and the end result is more quality shots for the client. |
| How many photos will I get from my shoot? (Wedding and Portrait customers only) |
For a Wedding you will get a minimum of 4 gig and a range anywhere from 4-9 gig depending on the size of your wedding and how many photographers we have shooting for you. For a portrait shoot you wil get as many photos as we can shoot during your sitting. This depends of course on the amount of time you have booked us for, and how many people (ie family/group size etc) we are shooting. Travel and Editorial work are determined by contract. |
| Can I make copies of my photos/disk? (Wedding and Portrait customers only) |
|
Again, yes. We've been hired to take photographs, not hold them hostage! In fact, we recommend that all of our clients immediately make at least one copy of their master disk and place it in either a safety deposit box or otherwise safe place. While we save copies of all jobs for 5 years and clients can (and have) come to us for replacement copies - We know it's a pain in the butt to go looking for a disk, wanting a photo right now - only to find out said disk is scratched, broken, the kids spilled soda on it, etc etc. Backup copies still give you the photo when you need it - without the wait for the replacement copy. Aditionally, our photo disks come with a Photographer's release which will enable you to make copies of your images anywhere, including your local Wal Mart, or whichever online service you might use. |
| Will my images be Hi-Res? |
Yes, of course! |
| But do you still offer prints? |
| Yes. We offer high-quality lab created prints, in any size and on a plethora of papers and materials. What do you have in mind? |
| Do you do wedding albums? |
Absolutely! We offer many different types of albums; from the very traditional to the latest cutting edge designs. |
| Do you shoot Bands? |
| While we are available for larger, credible music events, we do not shoot live "bar bands". |
| Do you sell Stock Photography/Do you have a Stock library? |
| No. We do not have a stock library. We do however, take assignment work for stock photography on a per-job basis. |
| Are you hiring? |
| No at this time Grey Dog Photography is not hiring. |
| What equipment would you recommend if I were shopping for a camera? |
We recommend purchasing equipment that you are comfortable with, and will enjoy using. Don't out-camera yourself if you are a beginner. Develop your feel for photography and your composition skill first. It's the Photographer's eye that makes the photograph - not just the camera! Professionally, we shoot with Nikon equipment, but our personal cameras include Canon, Olympus and Panasonic point and shoot models. Because - hey we all like toys, and yes, sometimes it's a pain to lug around a big SLR! These little cameras all have their advantages and they take lovely photographs. |
| Where do you buy your equipment/Where can I get a good price on... |
| SHOP AROUND! There are several great places to buy camera gear. Most of them have great sales support who can help you select the equipment you will need based on your experience level and budget. Compare prices with at least three different places before you commit to a purchase - sometimes this extra legwork can save you quite a bit of money! |
